Building fun experiences for the web

Today I'm focusing on work coding while reading up on more #godotengine goodness. My plan is to start building a simple HTML editor. Once it's done I'll write up a new tutorial.

Writing wise I'm going to pour more energy into Van Ella Magic and use that One Stop for Writers website.

Today's #gamedev goals

  • Start Godot web builder tutorial
  • Start Super Ultra Tiny Game Builder project.

See?

Let's see

Will this work for repl.it as well?

Will this work?

I've been reading a lot lately from lots of different sources across the net – in different fields – about how something formerly open and free is slowly becoming proprietary and hidden behind a paywall. The “commons” is getting gobbled up by companies that know how to fully exploit it, and do not give back anything in return. Or if they do, it has so many strings attached that it's just not worth it. Do you notice that you “buy” less things now, only “rent them” or “given a temporary revocable license”. Your money is gone forever though. You don't get that money back when your license was revoked, because you paid for the license, not the item.

We need to really break out of this walled garden and get back to the free and open commons. The web is so successful because it's open and free. But companies are co-opting it.

sigh

Anyway, I'm focusing on Real Life work today, and possibly reading up on more Godot docs.

Here's a picture I took a few days ago that amazed me. There were no other clouds in the sky.

An amazing photo of some distant clouds.

Keeping a daily log is hard. But if I can't find time to write down what I'm doing, then I'm probably doing it wrong. Today I am focusing on Real Life work – fixing bugs and such. While also steadily amassing an array of YouTube videos to watch and Medium posts to catch up on.

Thinking about IttyBittyRPG again and how I need to get progress. I've not even finished reading the Godot docs yet, let alone figuring out how to get things started.

I have however thought of my next tutorial – where I create a dirt simple HTML editor using Nodes. I will use that knowledge to incorporate into IttyBittyRPG.

Oh yeah, and in terms of playing — the Switch is such a great system. I was playing Picross on it and I LOVE the tutorials. They don't just teach you the mechanics of the game, they teach you the strategies as well. What a novel idea!

OK! Daily log 2 done!

I've decided to try to do a daily log of my progress on various projects. Intended more about organizing my thoughts, and keeping a record of progress. Perhaps it'll be of interest to others.

Today I learned about Svelte, Bit.dev and I subscribed to One stop for writers to work on updating my stories.

I'm thinking about adding content for FairyKnight, Van Ella Magic, and Sarah7. I've also gotten a few new Udemy tutorials and I'm struggling to find time to catch up on tutorial videos, and thinking about my Godot book / website.
